la Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe Restaurant Review:
Originally, la Madeleine started as a boulangerie specializing in breads and pastries. Although it has grown into a chain, the baked goods still satisfy even tough European critics. Favorites are the tossed Caesar salad, the best around for the price. Try the creamy tomato-basil soup with lots of butter and cream; the puff pastry spinach pochettes; and, for dessert, strawberries Romanoff with brandy-flavored cream sauce. Also noteworthy is rosemary rotisserie chicken. The pseudo-French décor is cheerful though très cliché. Other locations.
