THIS RESTAURANT IS NOW A PRIVATE EVENT SPACE Lakes Restaurant Review:
Lakes creatively incorporates the living room of the Macauley Mansion, once among the most opulent of Grosse Point homes, and previously part of the interior of the much respected Charley’s Crab, one of Henry Ford II’s favorite spots to dine. Sleekly sophisticated updates include ocean blue patterned flooring, richly colored woods, red brick walls, stained and leaded glass, and diffused lighting. For fun, sail shapes divide intimate dining booths, and the exposed duct work in one of the bar areas has a submarine-like motif. Casual foods include Kobe beef and buffalo chicken sliders, and blackened mahi mahi tacos. Entrées are inventive: Chilean sea bass with apple-curry risotto, citrus vinaigrette, braised leek, and shaved fennel and oven-dried tomato salad; banana leaf steamed teriyaki salmon accompanied by jasmine rice, pan-fried cauliflower, and a creamy Asian slaw with a soy and garlic chili sauce. Carnivores can opt for filets, chops, and beef cheek and mushroom ragù. Expect one of the largest domestic and international wine collections in the area; check out the house-made and -infused spirits, too: lavender gin, roasted garlic vodka, cucumber-lime rum and cinnamon whiskey.
