Las Palmas Restaurant Review:
The flavors of southern and central Mexico combine with Tex-Mex favorites in this small, colorful, family-friendly eatery. Start with one of seven margaritas --- we suggest the namesake, but the Blue Sky is also popular --- or a Mexican beer. Lunch plates are a quick option for beef enchiladas, pork tamales or the verde chicken enchiladas, but it’s nearly as fast to try the carne asada, slow-cooked pork carnitas or a torta (the Mexican sandwiches with meat, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and avocado). For dessert, there’s flan flavored with chocolate or traditional caramel. The second outpost in Maplewood gets more foot traffic, but the original, opened by Abel Suarez in 1997, is still flying below many diners’ radars, perhaps because of its location a few blocks from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
