Le Pain Quotidien Restaurant Review:
Part of the chainlet (which escapes the generic quality of most chains) this Upper East Side eatery hosts pretty young families and lots of Europeans at long communal pine tables, savoring their cappuccino and reading each other's newspapers. Alain Coumont offers savory nut breads and European pastries, along with the gourmet likes of beef carpaccio, Parma ham, duck pâté and soups including iced gazpacho with beet, mango, lime and avocado.
