Lee Chen Asian Bistro
Bustling Bloor-Yonge boasts one of the most comforting Asian restaurants in Toronto.
Lee Chen Asian Bistro Restaurant Review:
With a primary focus on Shanghai cuisine and dim sum, Lee Chen is the place to go for comforting, well-composed Chinese dishes served in a relaxed atmosphere. The space is very casual with muted brown tones, and has the feel of someone’s home kitchen, complete with family-style dishes. With savory meaty flavored broth and lightly spiced pork meatballs, the soup dumplings are a specialty. They come with a dipping sauce of vinegar and thinly sliced ginger. Servers take great pride in this dish, letting guests know to let dumplings cool slightly, but not so much that they grow cold. Scallion noodles are simple and addictive, tossed with fried green onions and salty soy sauce, while the smashed cucumber salad has a refreshing crunch with a light tang and bite of sliced fiery red chilies. Large cubes of pork belly arrive braised to a fall-apart texture and are sweet and salty from rock sugar and soy sauce. Even the simplest of dishes, sautéed pea shoots, are prepared expertly; wilted to bright green with firm stems. To complete the experience, Lee Chen offers different flavors of bubble tea, Chinese teas, and a small, but respectable, variety of red, white and Japanese wines.
