Leilani's on the Beach Restaurant Review:
Part of the TS Restaurants group that includes the Duke's chain, Leilani's has been overlooking the rolling surf on Kaanapali Beach since 1983. The seaside eatery specializes in smoking meat and fish in the kiawe wood-burning oven, basting it with barbecue sauce and then broiling it to order. These folks do it right, and the baby-back pork ribs, prime rib and steaks are best-sellers. Leilani's also has a selection of fresh fish prepared any number of ways, such as mahi mahi marinated in a ginger-orange-Chinese parsley sauce, and opakapaka in a lemon-caper reduction. Dinners are served upstairs from 5 p.m. For lighter meals, the downstairs beachside grill has burgers, sandwiches and smaller portions of the popular smoked-meat plate. Reservations are a must, especially if you want a front-row seat to view the daily sunset spectacular.
