L'Entrecote St-Jean Restaurant Review:
Located at the heart of the downtown business district, and surrounded by banks and large hotels, L'Entrecôte St-Jean is the go-to place for steak frites. The room is fitted with brass railings and long clean benches that occupy a large portion of the restaurant's real estate. It caters to a generally upscale business crowd and the menu is even more elitist: the only option is steak (with a daily soup and/or a salad and/or a dessert. The one soup du jour --- cream of broccoli --- may be uninspired, but is nicely done nonetheless. The salad is a spare assortment of lettuce, walnuts, and a simple vinaigrette. But the main course sirloin or striploin steak in a mild yet tasty mustard sauce with matchstick french fries is satisfying, though French (small) in portion. Profiteroles for dessert go down easy; try not to overdose. They're filled with ice cream and covered with bittersweet chocolate sauce. Service is friendly and professional. Wines are well chosen and French.
