Little Anita's New Mexican Foods Restaurant Review:
One of the best locations in this homegrown regional chain is within walking distance of Old Town. (If you, however, are not, rest assured there are eight other branches in sprawling Duke City.) Decorated in cheerful Mexican tile, it’s a great choice for a fast, inexpensive New Mexican meal, from breakfast onward. Every lunch and dinner starts with a basket of fresh, salty tortilla chips and some spicy salsa to snack on while you peruse the extensive menu. The traditional stacked enchiladas are always good, especially when served ranchero-style, topped with eggs. And the quartet of mini-tostadas --- beef, bean, rice or guacamole --- is a guilty pleasure. But don’t overdo it --- you’ve got to save room for Little Anita's sopaipillas, squares of deep-fried dough that puff up into golden pillows. Pinch off a corner and squeeze honey inside --- they're the stuff of memories. Better still are the savory versions, filled to the crispy brim with beef and beans, then smothered in cheese and red or green chile.
