Little Flower Candy Co. Restaurant Review:
Christine Moore used to be a pastry chef at restaurants like Campanile before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She experimented with artisanal candy making and won acclaim for her pleasantly chewy caramels and marshmallows flavored with cinnamon, chocolate or coffee. After selling online or through gourmet shops and bakeries across the country, she finally opened a shop of her own in Pasadena’s scenic San Rafael neighborhood, across the Colorado Bridge from the center of town. In addition to dispensing sweets, she operates a café in the homey space, offering good coffees and pastries in the morning and more substantial fare for lunch. Sandwiches include roast turkey with garlic edamame spread; a wrap filled with spinach, sprouts, avocado and tomatoes; and French ham and butter on a baguette. Filling bowls are also tasty, such as brown rice and shredded carrots with salmon and ponzu dressing. All are quite reliable, and Moore’s mushroom and leek quiche, alongside a beet and goat cheese salad dressed with sherry vinaigrette, is a nice prelude for some sweet caramels.
