THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED LloydMartin Restaurant Review:
LloydMartin's simple yet inviting space features dark wood and romantic lighting, which offer an appealing atmosphere for fine dining masquerading as a bistro. Chef-owner Sam Crannell, who named the restaurant after his grandfathers, offers a brief but tantalizing selection of inspired “small plates” that change every day. Begin with albacore crudo lightly dusted with vanilla salt, or foie gras mousse served with elegant accompaniments of Bourbon gelée and huckleberries. Poured from a small pitcher, velvety red kuri squash soup surrounds a plump cayenne-spiced marshmallow, making this dish as appealing as dessert. Frisée salad is crowned with a soft-boiled egg that melts into bits of bacon and is tossed with a Champagne-shallot vinaigrette. Of the entrées, we recommend the earthy venison Bolognese and the house-made gnocchi with rabbit ragù. Save room for the giant malted waffle topped with maple ice cream and strange-but-it-works bacon. The wine list features an interesting albeit pricey (average $50) selection of local and global labels. Service is smooth and friendly.
