THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED London Grill Restaurant Review:
A busy bar leads to a brightly modern dining room at this pioneering neighborhood restaurant. Since the development of the Fairmount district in the '70s, London Grill has set a warm, friendly backdrop for the cuisine of Michael McNally. The chef’s food ranges from down-home favorites to something a bit more on the cutting edge. You can play it safe with the bistro steak and pommes frites or go for the barbecue duck breast over corn cakes with foie gras mousse, or the fresh rendition of Caesar salad with kale, almonds and raisins. The wine list is thoughtful and the menu provides hints for wine pairings next to each entrée. In the bar, the mood is always convivial, in part thanks to an inventive and always changing draft craft list. Staff is helpful and friendly, as is co-proprietor Terry McNally, who keeps London Grill on a smooth track. The $3 happy hour appetizers are one of the best deals in town. Note: The owners opened Paris Wine Bar, a sibling spot in the adjacent building that features Pennsylvania wines on tap and French-inspired dishes.
