Luxe Burger Bar Restaurant Review:
With Luxe, Providence restaurateur John Elkhay has successfully done for the burger what his Rick's Roadhouse did for barbecue --- taken a simple staple of American dining (let's not call it cuisine) and honed it without tinkering excessively with the tried-and-true. The menu includes nine specialty burgers, including the "All World" with Kobe beef topped with goose liver pâté, truffle aïoli and microgreens, but we prefer the more democratic "Build Your Own Burger" menu, where you choose from a checklist of meats (including Gold Label and Kobe beef, tuna, turkey or a veggie patty), cheeses and other toppings, sauces, a selection of four types of bun, and three choices of fries. You may pair your burger with a Luxe "hard" (alcoholic) milk shake made with Baileys, Godiva chocolate liqueur or even Jagermeister, but we are duly impressed by the chef's light touch in preparing an Asian salad with fresh baby spinach, crisp snow peas, sliced peppers and carrots, and topped with seared ahi and a mild ginger and peanut dressing. If the milk shake wasn't enough sweets for you, try a giant chocolate chip cookie for dessert.
