THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Macarena Tavern & Restaurant Restaurant Review:
A crowd packs Macarena on weekends and turns the upscale Spanish restaurant into a boisterous dining scene reminiscent of Havana in the 50s. Early in the evening---meaning before midnight---sangrías and mojitos are flowing while the well-heeled clientele snack on a variety of tapas: Manchego cheese, croquettes, serrano ham bruschettas and so on. Paella Valenciana is the house specialty, available four different ways. Fresh catch of the day won't excite much---just sautéed with onions and shellfish in white wine. Steak from the grill, filet mignon with portobellos and other entrées fall short of fine dining expectations but the main event here is really the entertainment, including a live flamenco show. Don't let the name of the place scare you off---they do more than the Macarena here.
