Macon Bistro & Larder Restaurant Review:
A delightful upper-Connecticut destination in the Chevy Chase Circle area, Macon Bistro & Larder offers a homey, Southern-style menu with a seasonal twist. You may miss summer’s fried squash blossoms, but you can always find fried oysters, a pile of hot biscuits with honey butter, and a luscious “Mac”-on cheese, a macaroni dish that is wickedly rich. Executive chef Dan Singhofen has a reputation for using odd and quirky basics, and patrons can’t disagree when digging into the country-fried goat with dumplings. More familiar eats include braised pork shoulder and a bistro steak. Southern touches appear with the grits, hoppin’ John and collard greens. Brunch goes the Southern route as well, with fried chicken sandwiched in a cheddar waffle or the shrimp and grits selection. A very knowledgeable wine director will pair each part of the meal with one of the vintages from the well-stocked wine collection. Desserts? Go for the chocolate truffle cheesecake.
