THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Mambo Cafe Restaurant Review:
This bustling corner of Coconut Grove boasts a flamboyant Cuban café that serves a great buffet brunch---and more. Its little takeout counter sells some of the most creative and mouthwatering Cuban croquetas we have found, be they of fresh ham, yuca and oxtail, and potato and beef, or other ingredients. The chocolate tres leches, a cake-pudding-meringue hybrid with a maraschino cherry on top and served, like a flan, in a plastic cup. Mambo’s coconut flan merits trying. Wash it down with an ice-cold Materva, a favorite local soda with a faintly smoky bubble-gum flavor that is derived from the tea-like yerba mate that keeps Argentina’s gauchos from falling asleep on the pampas. The counter people are sweet and accommodating.
