Step out of the bustling Mira Mesa Mall and into the retro Mandarin Garden, where you’ll discover 200-plus authentic Chinese dishes from several provinces. Despite its obscure location, the restaurant has a loyal following. The menu has had few changes since the 1970s, but that seems to be what the people like---we’re just glad the preparations and presentation are usually above par. Those who love spice may want to ask the kitchen to add some heat, for many dishes are on the mild side (such as chicken with cashews, and even the boiled wonton in hot sauce).
