THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Marfa Restaurant Review:
Walking into this lower East Village eatery, you wonder if you've stumbled into someone's garage. There are distressed walls painted in off-white and earth tones and loud country music playing on the stereo. A high bar is lined with liquors that range from Baker’s to Old Grand-Dad. Tony Cruz, late of Dos Caminos, mans the stoves and does an admirable job with the Texas-inflected Mex on the menu. Tilapia fish tacos, paired nicely with a Serrano pepper salsa, go down nicely, but even better are bacon tacos, which add not only flavor but a crunchy texture. The jumbo barbecued shrimp are even better when drenched in the accompanying mango salsa; we also suggest the bread crumb-topped mac 'n' cheese. The menu doesn't look like much, but the food has a way of quietly sneaking up on the diner---just like the spicy salsa on the table.
