Maudie's Cafe Restaurant Review:
Maudie’s distinguishes itself from the plethora of other Austin Tex-Mex restaurants with its eclectic menu and patient waitstaff, who do their darndest to accommodate even the pickiest of parties. Here the most important meal of the day is not the smallest. Voluminous breakfast tacos come two per order and monstrous migas plates are draped in rich amarillo queso and refried beans. If you can postpone your tortilla cravings until after 11 a.m., you'll be rewarded with carne guisada tacos and bean and cheese chalupas as well as an array of six-dollar lunch specials. The chipotle shrimp stuffed avocado and pollo monterrey, chicken dressed with onions, bell peppers and queso blanco, are house favorites. To the delight of Tex-Mex lovers with wheat allergies, Maudie's provides a gluten-free menu. Bellying up to the bar is an ideal way to pass the time during evenings when waits are long, but be forewarned that the margaritas pack a punch.
