THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Maximiliano Restaurant Review:
Further fueling the very real Highland Park dining renaissance is Maximiliano, a venture of accomplished chef Andre Guerrero, whose Eagle Rock eatery, The Oinkster, exhibits his love for simple, honest cooking. Here, the colors of the Italian flag are splashed throughout an industrial chic environment. A buffed stainless steel bar offers a half-dozen craft beers on tap, and an affordable, global wine list is dominated by Italian labels. Begin with baked polenta with Gorgonzola dolce or wild mushroom risotto, then move on to pastas or pizzas from a prominent, red-tiled pizza oven (among the best is one layered with fingerling potatoes, spinach and roasted garlic, with mozzarella and Parmigiano-Reggiano). A few larger main courses are offered, as well as a nice selection of vegetable dishes, such as roasted cauliflower with pistachio pesto and baked fennel with Gruyère. Desserts include tiramisu, chocolate layer cake, or cannoli and chocolate chip cookies that are also available for the road.
