Maya Restaurant Review:

After a few days in wine country, a margarita and some nachos may be just what you need. So it’s a good thing Maya on Sonoma Plaza has a "temple" of tequilas from which to sample in the lively bar area. Choosing from the appetizers and small plates could leave you with no room for entrées; sparkling with vibrant flavors, these dishes cover the Yucatan: empanadas, grilled tiger prawns, chili rellenos, ceviche and guacamole made to order. Tortilla soup is laden with rich, spit-roasted chicken, diced tomatoes and a squeeze of lime juice, and is topped off with crispy tortillas and avocado. An interesting Caesar salad features crisp hearts of romaine that have been quickly grilled for an earthier flavor. Arriving with steaming handmade tortillas, mains such as the pork carnitas or the spice-rubbed chicken satisfy not only a growling stomach but also the Mexican soul. A simple spaghetti dish or pork chop with a Zinfandel sauce and polenta help tempt group members not so eager for chilies and cilantro. A daily happy hour from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. features specials on margaritas, well drinks, beers and house wines.
