McCormick & Schmick's Seafood & Steaks Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Although it is now owned by the Houston-based Landry’s restaurants chain --- which also has Morton’s the Steakhouse, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, and Bubba Gump in its stable --- McCormick’s still references Maryland in its seafood dishes and dining room décor. (There’s even a replica Chesapeake-style lighthouse on the patio, the better to view the harbor and Federal Hill beyond.)
Food: Crab cakes and oysters from local waters share the menu with such farther-flung favorites as cashew-crusted tilapia with Jamaican rum butter and Alaskan halibut. The cooking is more corporate and less regionally-based than it was under previous ownership, but the seafood is fresh and well-prepared. There’s also an emphasis on non-seafood choices, with steaks, chicken, pasta and a burger on offer.
