10 Degrees South Restaurant Review:

Dramatic and contemporary, if a bit loud, 10 Degrees South features classic South African cuisine, which blends myriad culinary traditions including French, Portuguese, Dutch, Mediterranean, Indian and Malaysian, as well as indigenous. Piri-piri sauce, originating in Africa, graces a pair of giant prawns. We like the fork-tender lamb lollipops; kingklip, a fish of South Africa, baked and complemented by a lemon-butter sauce; and the grilled calamari. Dutch-inspired, the boerewors sandwich, beef sausage on a milano roll, may serve as a tapa to pair with a glass of wine. Boboti, a dish of ground meat, in this case beef or chicken, is seasoned with curry, raisins and olives and topped with a cream sauce layer then baked. Sosaties (skewers of beef filet with apricot curry sauce) and biltong are other signature items, and specials present additional highlights of South African cooking. For dessert, check out Di's Delight, a sponge cake and fruit combination delivered warm with vanilla ice cream. The wine list offers a substantial collection of both red and white South African wines. Pinotage, made from the country’s unique red wine grape, harmonizes with lamb stews and curries. Finish with a glass of Van Der Hum, the orange-flavored brandy.
