Acropolis Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Acropolis is the antithesis of the trendy, buzzed-about restaurant du jour. It is, rather, one of the “old reliables” of Greektown, and has been capably satisfying customers for decades without much media attention. The dining room décor, with Mediterranean landscapes dotting a blue-and-white color scheme, and the menu may be predictable, but the traditional Greek fare is well-executed. A meal could be made of such appetizers as thick, authentically lemony avgolemono soup, flaky spanakopita and tender grilled octopus. You won’t want to miss the calamari, lamb giouvetsi or shish kebab, though, or one of the fresh seafood specials like shrimp saganaki. In typical Greektown fashion, the vegetables are overcooked, and the pastries tend to be dense and soggy-sweet. But no matter; you’ll leave happy, stuffed, and toting boxes of leftovers. Be sure to sample some of the Greek wines.
