Ahi Sushi Restaurant Review:

Even the most avid sushi fan would have to admit that Studio City is seriously overbuilt with Japanese restaurants, with a concentration approaching that of Little Tokyo. In terms of quality, Ahi Sushi is just about in the middle of the pack --- far from the superior caliber of nearby Asanebo or Katsu-ya, but considerably better than many on this busy stretch of Ventura Boulevard. Combining trendy flourishes with traditional art, the venue is attractive, with black linen-draped tables and a granite-topped sushi bar. The sushi is generally high quality, while satisfying appetizers include halibut carpaccio with ponzu and green onion; sautéed garlic clams, lobster and asparagus dynamite; and shiitake mushrooms stuffed with blue crab. Entrées include whole lobster tail tempura and grilled king salmon with yellow pepper sauce. There are some fun sushi rolls, like the "Kaliata" with yellowtail and tempura-fried jalapeños, as well as the "Coconut" with avocado and shrimp inside, and spicy tuna, scallops and coconut on top. A good selection of saké is available, as well as shochu, wine, martinis and Japanese beer. For dessert, be tempted by chocolate gelato with a heart of raspberry sorbet.
