Amor Cubano Restaurant Review:
Is it a restaurant or a nightclub? At first glance, after spotting the hostess dancing with anyone within earshot, it’s a club. But sit down and tuck into some classic Cuban dishes and you’ll see it’s more a restaurant. The usual suspects are here, including a garlicky ropa vieja and sides of fried yucca and plantains. But there are some uncommon selections, too. Don’t miss the tender lechon asado, “marinated in love” and bolstered by Papi's secret bitter orange mojo, and the vaca frita, which pairs shredded beef with a piquant marinade. Consider several of the appetizers as well, especially the hearty garbanzos fritos --- chickpeas crisped with smoked ham and bacon. It’s safe to skip dessert in favor of one of the just-as-sweet cocktails; eight styles of mojito use rum infused with pineapple, guava, mango and coconut. Amor Cubano isn’t the most innovative place for a meal, but with attentive service and a lively atmosphere, it’s the right kind of destination for a Friday night on the town.
