Asa Ransom House Restaurant Review:

The Asa Ransom House is a welcome diversion from the slew of chic and contemporary establishments that has overtaken the dining scene of late. An open menu of traditional fare is available most evenings while an inclusive five-course fixed price meal is served on weekends at two seatings. Offerings from the open menu include starters such as artichoke-Brie-tomato dip served with a baked pita, Jeffersonian beef (thin slices of prime rib topped with mushrooms, a cherry brown sauce and provolone) and the linguini with herb oil and Parmesan on a spring mix with onions and tomatoes. Mains lean towards the traditional and include, among others, a seared boneless breast of duck glazed with honey and served with a zippy mango-pineapple salsa; the Ransom chicken potpie is chock full of roasted chicken and hearty vegetables in a savory cream sauce hidden beneath a flaky pastry. Meatier options include veal osso buco, filet mignon, rack of lamb, shepherd’s pie, prime rib and roast turkey---all served with mixed greens, homemade rolls and muffins, smashed potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables. Notably, the Asa Ransom House offers a large selection of local wines, including selections from the Finger Lakes, North Fork, the Hudson Valley, and Niagara County.
