Assaggio Ristorante Restaurant Review:
Self-taught chef Mauro Golmarvi opened Assaggio Ristorante in 1993, bringing a refreshing Italian charm to Seattle diners. Old-world dishes are served on crisp linens adorned with fresh flowers. Starters range from stuffed, fried green olives to grilled pancetta-wrapped radicchio, and seafood saffron soup. Meat lovers will enjoy the veal osso buco, while the seafood-minded turn to a pizza topped with shrimp, scallops and calamari. A vegetarian favorite is the savory baked eggplant crusted with breadcrumbs and Parmesan. Other menu highlights include wild boar ragù, house-made gnocchi in a brown sage butter sauce, and cheese-filled ravioli with sea scallops in a saffron cream sauce. For a sweet finish, don't miss the cannoli. There's a small but thoughtful selection of Italian wines to complement your meal.
