Babouch Restaurant Review:
Moroccan restaurants in Los Angeles often have similar concepts: fantasy settings, exotically costumed waiters, multi-course meals meant to be eaten by hand while sitting on low cushions, and occasional interruptions by belly dancers. Babouch separates itself from the pack by serving better food, and distinguishes itself even further by offering a complimentary Tarot card reading with dinner. We can't vouch for the accuracy of the latter, but we do recommend starting with a traditional bastilla --- pastry stuffed with chicken, spiced eggs and roasted almonds, topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon --- before moving on to larger dishes like rabbit with garlic and paprika, or chicken with honey, prunes and sesame seeds. Though Moroccan wine is offered, the California selections are a heartier complement to the food. They also offer a rather good selection of craft and boutique beers should you feel the need to go that route. The venue proposes a three-course prix-fixe menu on a nightly basis.
