Bamboo Cuisine Restaurant Review:
Although the menu is not particularly distinguishable from a thousand others, Bamboo provides a more sophisticated experience than the average neighborhood Chinese eatery, and it's fiercely loyal following is much-deserved. The setting is contemporary, with ochre walls, white linen-dressed tables and a mix of tasteful Eastern and Western art. Dishes are made from quality ingredients, and service is accommodating and professional. The kitchen does a nice job with ubiquitous appetizers such as chicken wontons in a spicy garlic sauce and sizzling rice soup, as well as the bamboo chicken salad with red ginger, crispy noodles and a sweet sesame soy dressing. The extensive menu offers entrées like half crispy duck, shredded pork in hoisin sauce and lamb with bamboo shoots and leeks. Although the seafood dishes are a bit more expensive, some are worth the splurge, particularly the braised shrimp and the whole deep-fried catfish. There are many good vegetarian options ranging from sautéed spinach with black mushrooms to spicy steamed eggplant and cilantro in garlic sauce. Lychee nuts and green tea ice cream are available for dessert.
