Barboncino Restaurant Review:
A project of indie filmmaker Ron Brown, this wood table-laden pizzeria in burgeoning Crown Heights serves up wood-fired pies and Italian-flavored snacks. Start with the pesto-coated fava beans or a round of meatballs: baseball-size, irregularly shaped, and wading in a shallow pool of tomato sauce. But people really come here for the pizzas, which are offered in the usual Italian varieties --- we like the version with crimini and fennel sausage. The pies are Neapolitan in appearance but actually are more American style in that they’re baked all the way through and lack that messy center one finds in the real Neapolitan product. There’s a short list of affordable wines and also some craft beers.
