Bette's is a good spot for pancakes, poached eggs and a variety of gratifying omelets --- all proudly made from scratch the old-fashioned way. It's elevated comfort food: meatloaf, bockwurst, banana-rum-soufflé pancakes, lox scrambles, fish sandwiches. Corned beef hash and waffles are especially popular. What with Berkeley traffic, parking and the wait for a table, a visit here is rarely a quick outing. Relax and enjoy the sophisticated atmosphere of Fourth Street --- Berkeley's version of Rodeo Drive --- or try grabbing a seat at the counter for the authentic Bette's experience. Like the eats, but don't want to wait next time? Bette's also sells baked goods to go, as well as its own scone, waffle and pancake mixes retail.
