Big Tomatoes Restaurant Review:
Taking advantage of its setting in a historic building --- once a hardware store --- Big Tomatoes has kept intact the hardwood floors and vintage drawers where bolts and nails were stored. But the food is all cutting-edge-modern with a menu created by chefs and owners Larry London and Ryan Schroeder Jr. Start your meal with pistachio-dusted crab and seafood cakes; steamed Canadian mussels with garlic, tomatoes and herbs; or tempura-battered asparagus served with zingy citrus dressing. Then, it's on to a caramelized pear and Gorgonzola salad with spiced walnuts, pan-seared scallops or grilled beef tenderloin. For dessert, try such signatures as chocolate hazelnut cake and tiramisu roulade as well as the gelato or sorbet of the day. There’s also a nice wine and cocktail list that features affordable reds and whites by the bottle or glass and a selection of Bellinis and grappatinis.
