THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Blue Point Coastal Cuisine Restaurant Review:
Set in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter, this sleek spot is one of the many Cohn-family restaurants that packs 'em in all over town. Dark wood, high-backed booths and (perhaps) the extensive martini list try to lend a sense of intimacy to the usually overcrowded dining room. The menu offers a bit of everything for seafood lovers: fresh oysters, tuna sashimi, shrimp cocktails and osetra caviar. Start with the famous lobster bisque or the roasted octopus and grilled romaine salad with garbanzo beans, fried capers and oven-roasted tomatoes. We like the North Atlantic scallops with black truffle orzo, baby squash and arugula in a romesco sauce, and the grilled swordfish in basil pesto. Braised filet mignon ravioli is rich, with its smoked Gouda-mascarpone filling. Desserts are fairly standard --- crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake, fruity sorbets --- but done well. For a fun cocktail, order up the "Kentucky Root Beer" made with Maker's Mark bourbon, ginger beer, cherry bitters and an orange twist.
