Cafe Carolina Restaurant Review:

A neighborhood favorite, this proudly family-owned establishment serves homemade pastas and handmade gnocchi. In addition to its classic dishes, the menu features a “Ticket to Italy” section that moves about through the country’s famed regions every three weeks, so you may dine in Umbria or the Veneto one visit and in Calabria or Tuscany the next. Vegan and vegetarian options are so well devised you’ll never miss the animal products. Insalata di Parma is a good starter that features prosciutto and Parmigiano straight from the homeland. Individual pizzas are also available gluten-free. Mains include chicken Marsala and grilled Angus flat iron steak with green peppercorn sauce. Lamb chops are delicately seasoned and the gnocchi Gorgonzola, rich and satisfying. For dessert, go all out with vesuvio al cioccolato, a three-layer chocolate mousse with rum and espresso. The wine list is representative of Italy’s many regions --- and California’s as well. The sunny, festive setting displays work by an array of artists and changes every few weeks. The place is popular and busy, but never seems too loud or the service too rushed. Attentive, knowledgeable staff make you feel like one of the family, even on your first visit.
