Cafe Kashkar Restaurant Review:
If you’re not a Brooklyn resident, there are still a few compelling reasons to make the trek out to Brighton Beach. The Atlantic Ocean is one, and Café Kashkar is another. The restaurant serves Uighur cuisine, the food of an ethnic minority from the far western Chinese province of Xinjiang. The menu is extensive and, to the uninitiated, filled with unfamiliar dishes. Fortunately, most items are accompanied by photos, so let your eyes help you decide. A few hits: fried lagman, thick wheat noodles interlaced with onion and peppers and topped with a fried egg; manti, similar to soup dumplings but closer to the size of a baseball; and the shurpa, deep lamb broth with vegetables and potatoes.
