Move over, Mom, we have a new favorite soup: the white chicken chili at Café Manhattan. Close seconds in popularity are the seasoned beef sandwich and the vegetarian-friendly Liberty Melt. Fans of the classic Provel-topped, cracker-thin St. Louis-style pizza will be happy with this version. Burgers are reliable, but why not try a fat and juicy meatloaf sandwich and some hand-cut fries? And don’t skip the cheesecake. At this airy, roomy diner filled with authentic ’50s memorabilia, expect lots of families digging into root beer floats, plus some business-types slipping away for lunch with a chocolate milk shake. On the weekend, call ahead or you may have to wait for a table. Weeknights, be prepared for uneven service.
