Cafe Reconcile Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Considering the number of restaurants in New Orleans, it only seems fitting that at least one would exist not only to feed the masses, but also to train at-risk youth for culinary careers. Such is the mission of Café Reconcile, which for over two decades has worked to turn out restaurant professionals while serving Creole cooking. Situated in central city, this place is so popular that it had to increase its space from 2,400 to 17,000 square feet just to accommodate the ever-increasing demand.
Likes: Roast beef po-boys.
Dislikes: The competition for a table.
Food & Drinks: Everyone from power-lunchers to ladies who lunch and curious tourists pack the café to sample the fried catfish, smothered pork chops, crawfish bisque and shrimp Creole. Chicken salad is made from the whole bird, dark meat included, and we know people who don't eat roast beef po-boys anyplace else. Daily specials include Thursday’s creamy white beans with shrimp, and the chicken and sausage gumbo is one to remember. You'll want the bananas Foster bread pudding for dessert. Service is friendly and much better than you might expect from a training environment. The café is usually very crowded --- get there early if you’re in a hurry.
