California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Two dozen crispy-thin pizzas comprise the standards as well as inventive versions such as wild mushroom and pear and Gorgonzola. The barbecued chicken pizza --- with smoked Gouda, red onions, cilantro and optional bacon --- is the most popular choice, but diners are welcome to design their own from a substantial list of ingredients. Pastas, salads and tacos are also worth a try --- we found the crisp Chinese chicken salad especially satisfying. (Salad portions are large --- consider a half-order.) A "new adventures" promotion updates the menu with several options, including a fresh and California appropriate quinoa and arugula salad; a spicy, lingering chile rellenos; and grilled chicken chimichurri with an addictive, authentic sauce. Butter cake is our pick for a finish: pound cake with crispy crumb edges and a cheesecake layer on top --- best if ordered à la mode. Order in advance and staff will bring the food curbside for hassle-free takeout.
