Campisi's The Egyptian Restaurant Restaurant Review:
First thing to know is that this Dallas legend is so dear to natives' hearts that one must never speak an unkind word about it. Second, Jack Ruby had dinner there the night before Kennedy was assassinated. Third, there's nothing even vaguely Egyptian on the menu of standard southern Italian dishes like spaghetti with meatballs, lasagna and veal piccata. Legend has it that when Joe and Sam Campisi bought the old Egyptian Restaurant in 1950 they were too cheap to put up a new sign. The real reason it's remained so popular all these years is the square-shaped, thin-crust pizzas, especially when topped with its excellent Italian sausage. Be sure to sit in the old part of the restaurant (versus the addition) with the dim lights and cozy booths.
