Carino's Northern Italian Caffe Restaurant Review:
If you're seeking Italian food with easy access, Carino's is handy. It sits in a plaza on one of the few curves in the main thoroughfare up and down the beaches that line the Gulf of Mexico. There's no view of the adjacent Intracoastal Waterway, but the food is dependable and, at times, surprisingly varied. Entrée standards include veal, pasta, seafood and rack of lamb, or go for the penne alla matriciana with garlic, basil, Italian bacon, onions and tomato sauce. Also popular is the cernia livornese, grouper (when in season) with capers, onions, black olives and tomato. An alternative is the snapper livornese, prepared the same way. Fans of poultry opt for the pollo Portofino (breast of chicken with mushrooms, artichoke hearts, onions, garlic and rosemary in a wine sauce). Homemade desserts and antipasti are displayed attractively, close to the entrance.
