China Village Restaurant Review:
A 2012 fire led to a refresh and a few tweaks to this longstanding Szechuan favorite on Solano Avenue --- there may be a new private banquet room, but most of the menu remains happily unchanged. Scores of diners have returned to scarf up some of the Bay Area’s finest Szechuan-style food. At the large tables, Lazy Susans spin to reveal seafood soups paved over with red chilies, fiery lamb cooked in a clay pot, puffy rounds of scallion bread and bowls of rice. Though China Village offers Cantonese cooking, too, those in the know stick to the Szechuan choices, the specialties of the house. For spice lovers, the slow chili burn is addictive. Diners who prefer a milder experience can ask the kitchen to tame the heat.
