Cocina 214 Restaurant Review:

Tucked on a side street off of busy Park Avenue, Cocina 214 is easy to overlook. The 214 in the restaurant’s name represents the Dallas area code. Start with a margarita such as The Park Ave Lux with Patron Silver, Patron Citronge and fresh lime. Nibble on appetizers like the 214 ceviche, a plate of fresh seasonal fish drizzled in a citrus lime marinade with chunks of spicy jalapeño, red onion, tomato and avocado; and the complimentary chips and salsa (or pair the former with the hand-mashed, chilled guacamole). Entrées are hit and miss, but the duck confit tacos are a good, decadent choice. Or share some of the “street” tacos, perhaps the beef brisket or blackened fish versions made with airy house-made flour tortillas. For dessert, we recommend the tres leches cake. Warm colors, wood-and-brick textures and pops of bright hues give the place a decidedly Southwestern feel. Tall ceilings and painted concrete and tile floors are modern and attractive, but the noise level is pretty high during happy hour and on busy weekend nights.
