Husband and wife team Jeni and Sam Wahl are the force behind this Pilsen tamaleria, which features a catering operation in back and a grab-and-go counter up front. Inspired by recipes of Jeni’s youth are classics, like garlicky, slow-cooked Cuban pork, though it’s the more unique, ingredient-driven ones that are getting buzz, like peanut-y coconut curry chicken and Chicago-style Italian beef with house giardiniera. Look for specials, too, like alligator-andouille jambalaya. There are sweet takes as well (watch for the comforting apple cobbler with salted blonde caramel sauce).
