Dim Sum Garden Restaurant Review:

This former diamond in the rough, once located on a gritty block near Market Street East, has moved to bigger and brighter quarters in the heart of Chinatown. Although the restaurant now offers a clean, contemporary look, its star attraction --- soup dumplings --- is as mouth-watering as ever. If you’ve never tried soup dumplings, a Shanghai specialty, they're both a challenge to eat and addictive once you’ve managed your first. Called Shanghai steamed bun on most menus, these little purses of dough are filled with hot soup and savory bits of ginger-scented pork or crab meat. While dumplings are the main event, equally good are soups brimming with chewy, hand-shaved noodles spiked with seaweed, cabbage, chives and pork. Skewers of salt-baked shrimp, a good scallion pancake and stir-fried rice dishes are all tasty options. It’s a good bargain --- but it is cash only.
