Din Tai Fung Restaurant Review:
This well-known Chinese restaurant is smartly situated in the southeast corner of South Coast Plaza, where its distance from the mall’s high-end shops instantly makes it more accessible for the masses. And there are plenty of people who line up to enjoy the menu’s claim to fame: a vast array of tasty and authentic soup dumplings, which range from straightforward creations like fish and chicken to more complex ones filled with kimchi and pork. We recommend starting with the vegetable and pork wonton soup or the clean, palate-setting cucumber salad. Round out your dumpling experience by adding a couple of other plates to your meal, such as the sautéed mustard greens with shredded ginger, Kurobuta pork bun or the Shanghai rice cake with shrimp. Finish with the intriguing sweet taro red bean xiao long bao. One word of warning: Long wait times for tables are almost as famous as Din Tai Fung’s dumplings. If you’re willing to forgo eating in the sleek, Asian-accented dining room, you can circumvent the crowds by calling in a to-go order.
