If you don’t see chef Donato Scotti on your visit to his eponymous enoteca, you’ll hear his friendly, booming voice, adding even more charm to this classic country Italian restaurant. A front room with plenty of natural light features an attractive open kitchen, while a center area is bordered by a large bar, and a third distinct chamber blends the ambience of an elegant library and an upscale wine cellar. Outdoor dining is perfect for a spring lunch or warm evening dinner, perhaps before a show at one of the nearby theaters or a visit to the revitalized outdoor center of Redwood City. Start with an Italian take on pulled pork, bruschetta di cinghiale (braised wild boar on grilled ciabatta), or the authentic burrata flown in from Italy, and follow with a house-made pasta or risotto. Pappardelle is tossed with slow-roasted Kurobuta pork, while carnaroli risotto with pork belly is a star of the menu, delivering creamy risotto and an ideal mix of crunchy skin and flavorful meat. Special events such as annual Italian wine tastings feature Scotti’s addictive porchetta. Italian wines dominate the list and complement the cuisine; by-the-glass selections are available.
