Five Palms Beach Grill Restaurant Review:
Five Palms has one of the best sunset views on South Maui, with the coveted outdoor tables steps away from Keawakapu beach. The dining room is quiet and comfortable, and the staff friendly and attentive. For appetizers, we like the ahi prepared three ways: blackened and seared with ginger wasabi aïoli, fried nori and panko-crusted spicy ahi tartare, and an ahi poke napoleon. For entrées, the menu offers a variety of seafood and meat dishes, though some feature heavier sauces and bold flavors that don’t quite complement the island-style ambience. That said, we enjoy the fresh island fish, prepared crab-crusted then topped with a delicate lobster sauce, and served with sweet Moloka’i purple potatoes. The broiled flatiron steak is also a winner. For dessert, the pineapple crème brûlée, served in a pineapple shell, is rich and sweet. A nightly sushi bar offers rolls and nigiri, which are half-price during happy hour. Breakfast fare includes a nice selection of brunch-style items such as Hawaiian sweet bread french toast and bananas Foster pancakes, along with omelets and Benedicts.
