Flying Fish Restaurant Review:
Authentic Southern-fried catfish typically is found in fish-fry shacks. But Flying Fish offers the Southern specialty in the heart of downtown Memphis, close to the Beale Street Entertainment District. The walls are covered with those singing Big Mouth Bill Bass wall plaques that were so popular in the late 1990s, most donated by customers. At the front counter, order classic fried catfish (USA farm-raised) and hush puppies, or step it up a notch with grilled tilapia or snapper Veracruz style. Classic sides include pickled green tomatoes, beer-battered onion rings and grilled squash. Wine and beer are sold in price categories of “good” or “better,” so don’t expect the finest vino or suds. Wrap up the meal with a classic Southern dessert: Key lime pie, bread pudding, banana pudding or cobbler.
