With its warm service, modern artwork and open floorplan, Formoli's is a neighborhood gem. Locals know they are guaranteed quality food and good wine --- all at a fraction of the price they'd find at shinier places in midtown. Starters include lamb sliders with harissa aïoli and mussels with homemade sausage in a spicy tomato broth. Mains include a pork osso buco with creamy polenta and salmon with fried trumpet mushrooms and carrot purée. The eight-course chef's tasting menu includes such delights as beef carpaccio with frisée and fried squash blossoms.
