Frasca Pizzeria & Wine Bar Restaurant Review:
This is a neighborhood joint at heart --- but it’s a cool one at that with a contemporary Italian menu that’s backed by the sound of indie rock, low lighting and a come-as-you-are kind of crowd (which isn’t to say they aren’t hip). Adding further cred, it comes from Michael and Doug Dunlay, cousins who also operate Dunlays on the Square, Dunlays on Clark, Smoke Daddy and two locations of D.O.C. Wine Bar. After grabbing a comfortable, oversize booth, get on board with the array of sharable plates, from crackle-crust pizza topped with diced prosciutto, oven-dried tomatoes and Gorgonzola to salumi and cheese plates that can be customized and most certainly should include bruschetta topped with ricotta, pistachios and honey. In comparison, entrées are lackluster --- including forgettable penne with roasted chicken and pesto. Watch for daily food or drink specials, which are quite the deal. After all, half-price bottles of wine on Mondays and buy one, get one pizzas on Wednesdays are hard to beat.
